Overview
Dzukou Valley is one of the most scenic trekking destinations in Northeast India, located on the border of Nagaland and Manipur. Known for its rolling grasslands, seasonal wildflowers and meandering streams, the valley offers a landscape unlike any other trekking region in India.
Situated at an altitude of approximately 2,450 metres, Dzukou is often called the “Valley of Flowers of the Northeast.” During the monsoon months, the valley transforms into a vibrant carpet of green with blooming lilies and wildflowers, while winter brings golden grasslands and occasional frost.
The trek is relatively short and accessible, making it a popular choice for first-time trekkers exploring the Northeast.

Viswema Route

The Viswema Route is the most popular approach to Dzukou Valley and is preferred by first-time trekkers. The trail begins with a jeep track followed by a gradual climb through forests and open ridges before descending into the valley. While slightly longer, it is less steep and offers a more comfortable trekking experience.
Zakhama Route

Difficulty: Moderate
Duration: 1-2 Days
Distance: ~10-12 km
The Zakhama Route is the shorter but more demanding approach to Dzukou Valley. The trail climbs steeply along a forested ridge almost immediately after leaving the village, gaining altitude quickly before entering the valley. It is best suited for trekkers looking for a faster and more challenging ascent.
How to reach
Viswema Village
From Kohima, travel approximately 22 km by road to reach Viswema Village, the most popular starting point for the Dzukou Valley Trek. Shared taxis and private vehicles are available from Kohima, and the journey takes around 45–60 minutes. Most trekkers choose this route as it offers a more gradual ascent and a well-established trail.
Zakhama Village
Zakhama Village is located about 18 km from Kohima and can be reached by road in 30–45 minutes. Shared taxis and private vehicles operate regularly from Kohima. The trek from Zakhama is shorter but significantly steeper, making it a preferred option for trekkers seeking a more challenging ascent to Dzukou Valley.
